Tamil actor Vishal promises to continue Puneeth's charity; to fund educational expenses of 1800 children

Kannada star Puneeth Rajkumar who passed away on October 29, left behind 1800 children whose education he had been sponsoring apart from several other social initiatives led by him. Now, his friend and co-actor Vishal will take on the responsibility of overseeing the educational expenses for the 1800 children that were being borne by the late actor.

During an event for the upcoming movie ‘Enemy’ starring actors Vishal and Arya, the team paid a tribute to Rajkumar. Vishal also gave a speech at the event where he said “Puneeth Rajkumar is not just a good actor, but a good friend as well. I haven’t seen such a down-to-earth superstar like him. He was doing lots of social activities. I promise to take care of 1800 students who are getting free education from Puneeth Rajkumar from next year,” reported The Times of India.

The upcoming movie is helmed by Anand Shankar and features Mamta Mohandas, Mirnalini Ravi and Karunakaran alongside Arya and Vishal. The duo of Vishal and Arya will be together after the 2011 action-drama ‘Avan Ivan’ directed by filmmaker Bala.

The film will be backed by S Vinod Kumar under the banner of Mini Studios while Thaman is overseeing the music for the film.

Puneeth died at the age of 46 after suffering a heart attack in Bangalore. His funeral was attended by prominent celebrities as well as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. An advocate of social service, the 46-year-old had set up 45 free schools, 26 orphanages, 19 goshala and 16 old age homes, according to TOI. 

In accordance with a pledge for donating his eyes, the actor also fondly called Appu by his fans, had his eyes donated. Following the footsteps of his parents, he became the third member of his family to have donated eyes, following his father Dr Rajkumar in 2006 and his mother Parvathamma in 2017, reported India Today.
